The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and GMIS Connect Mexico organized a series of thematic panels on best practices associated with strategic approaches for circular economy, innovation and quality infrastructure to access market and integrate into value chains within the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and taking into account the industrial context in Mexico as well as its path towards implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.



Mexico, like many other developing countries and economies in transition, is aware of the opportunities, implications and challenges related to the implementation of Industry 4.0 and UNIDO provided a holistic point of view on the importance of industry for the promotion of inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID) and by extension for social prosperity and the safeguard of the environment.



Concurrently, the Annual Meeting of Industrialists (RAI) organized by the Mexican Industrial Chamber Confederation (CONCAMIN) took place, with the participation of federal and state authorities as well as industrialists. During the Meeting, UNIDO identified new lines of cooperation with the industrial chambers to assist relevant regional industrial sectors – such as aeronautics, automotive, and shoes leather manufacturing – within the framework of the 2018 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between CONCAMIN and UNIDO. Inter alia, the MoU calls for the promotion of multi-stakeholder partnerships to facilitate technical training demand for new skills; the transfer of new technologies; and leveraging investment on required infrastructure for the digital transformation of local SMEs.



The 2019 Industrial Transformation Mexico (ITM) event, which is part of Hannover Messe brand, took place in Mexico from 9 to 11 October 2019. ITM provides a framework for Mexico to take advantage of efforts already made by industrial sectors such as aerospace, automotive, electronics, health care, food and beverage, metalworking, packaging systems, and steel and chemical processing, with the support of high-level universities and technological institutions.
